Jessica Reynaga, a coach and physical education teacher with Laredo ISD, was surprised with a proposal from fellow coach Alvaro Arriaga after her Gallego Lady Ligers won a volleyball game at the Boys and Girls Club. Reynaga's students, their parents and her family were part of the surprise, according to KGNS. A video of the proposal has been shared widely online.
Reynaga and Arriaga knew each other in high school, when they played basketball against each other. They reconnected in 2020 while working at Don Jose Gallego Elementary School, where Arriaga helped coach some teams. Amber Almanza, principal at the school, said she was excited to see Arriaga on one knee holding a volleyball.
Reynaga said a parent of one of the players made the volleyball used in the proposal. The couple plans to wait until basketball season ends before they start planning their wedding.
