The Mexia Chamber of Commerce honored citizens and businesses at its annual awards banquet on a Saturday night in October at The Cowboy Western Club. The event had the theme "Mexia: To The Future & Beyond - Celebrating Our Past. Honoring our Present. Building Our Future." A silent auction was held during the evening.
The chamber gave 11 awards, and the final award was the Hall of Fame Award, which went to Dicky "Stick" Flatt. The chamber said the award recognizes a lifetime of service. Flatt has lived in Mexia for more than 80 years. His parents bought a print shop in Mexia in 1938, and he later returned to work in the family business after four years in the U.S. Air Force.
According to the chamber, Flatt was a Scoutmaster in Mexia for 10 years and earned the Silver Beaver Award. He has also served the Mexia Lions Club for more than 50 years, holding most of its offices and serving twice as president. He received the Melvin Jones Fellowship for that work. Chamber President Taylor Rocheleau presented the award.
