Families gathered at Buffalo Gap Historic Village on Halloween for the annual Scarecrow Festival and Heritage Trick-or-Treat. The event offered trick-or-treating, face painting, arts and crafts, and scarecrow displays made by students from across the Big Country. Visitors could also tour historic buildings.

Scott Clowdus, executive director of the Taylor County History Center, said the festival brings families together and connects younger generations with local history. He said the festival typically draws about 400 visitors.

The festival is part of Buffalo Gap Heritage Days, a 12-day celebration of the area's history and culture. Clowdus said the event is a collaboration between the Buffalo Gap Chamber of Commerce, the Buffalo Gap Historic Village, and the Buffalo Gap Improvement Corporation. The celebration ends Saturday, Nov. 7, with the Buffalo Hunters' Camp Reenactment.
