The Cooper Cougars led the Lubbock-Coronado Mustangs 27-7 at halftime on a rainy Friday night in a district game.

Cooper scored first when Tayden Bender caught a touchdown pass from Joel Soto, who had connected with Dot Dunson on a slant earlier in the play. Dunson broke left and ran to the 3-yard line to set up the score. The extra point was no good, and Cooper led 6-0.

The Mustangs scored a touchdown to take a 7-6 lead after recovering a fumble by Markquel Sims. Cooper answered with a score from Dunson and kept adding to its lead. By halftime, Cooper had a 20-point margin, and the team plans to keep its momentum in the second half.
