The Limestone County NAACP Branch #6196 held its 10th Annual Scholarship Fundraising Banquet at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Mexia. Renee Turner is the branch president, and Melvalynn Jones chaired the banquet. The branch said the event raises money to support students pursuing higher education.
At the banquet, the branch named three new NAACP Lifetime Members: Bethsaida Baptist Church, Cedrick Gamble of Pearly Gate Funeral Home, and St. John A.M.E. Church. Coolidge Mayor John Crawford and his wife, Precious Crawford, also attended. The branch said Crawford is the first African American to serve as mayor of Coolidge.
