The average price of gasoline in Texas fell 6.4 cents per gallon over the past week, to $3.66 a gallon on Monday, Oct. 26, according to GasBuddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Texas prices are 23.3 cents lower than a month ago and $1.09 higher than a year ago.
GasBuddy said the national average diesel price rose 4.0 cents from a week earlier to $6.340 per gallon. The cheapest Texas station was priced at $2.99 a gallon on Sunday and the most expensive at $5.65, the company said. The national average gasoline price was unchanged over the week at $4.24 a gallon, down 22.3 cents from a month ago and $1.24 higher than a year ago.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said gasoline prices fell in a majority of states, though a spike in the Great Lakes tied to a regional refinery issue nearly offset the decline. He said that situation is now beginning to clear up. De Haan said he expects the national gasoline average to stay above $4 a gallon and diesel above $6 heading into the U.S. election. He said oil eased somewhat in Sunday trading, with WTI just above $102 a barrel and Brent near $115.
