One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash on West Walker Street in Breckenridge on Tuesday, Oct. 27, around 7 p.m. in front of McDonald's, according to the Breckenridge Police Department.
Police Chief Blake Johnson said a pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer carrying large stone slabs. He said the preliminary investigation indicated the pickup was going west on U.S. Highway 180 (Walker Street) and attempted to turn into a business on the south side of the road when it pulled into the path of the eastbound semi. The impact knocked the pickup onto its side.
The driver of the pickup, a local man, was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital by ambulance and then flown by air ambulance to a larger hospital. Emergency responders said the tractor-trailer driver was not hurt. The eastbound lanes of Walker were closed for more than an hour, and vehicles were detoured onto South FM 3099. Traffic was backed up for several blocks. The Breckenridge Police Department, Breckenridge Fire Department, Sacred Cross EMS and the Stephens County Sheriff's Office responded. The crash remains under investigation.
