Rockwall ISD has received the Career and Technical Education District of Distinction designation from the Career and Technical Association of Texas for a third consecutive year. The award recognizes districts that prepare students for careers through industry-based certifications, career pathways, partnerships with employers and programs that meet workforce needs.
The district offers 28 programs of study and 45 industry certifications. Options include registered dental assistant, emergency medical technician and cybersecurity. Students can earn technical skills and industry credentials while still in high school, whether they plan to work after graduation or continue their education.
Alison Belliveau, the district's executive director of Career and Technical Education and principal of the Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy, said the recognition reflects the work of teachers, students and community partners. Belliveau said the district aims to prepare students for lifelong success, not only for graduation.
