Police said no ballots were compromised when a woman entered a voting location in Jefferson on Friday night. Police Chief Florentino Perez said officers were called about a disorderly person at the site at North Alley and Webster St. after polls closed.
According to information county election administrator Karen Jones gave police, election officials were securing equipment and ballots for transport when a woman asked to see what was happening inside. She then entered through another entryway. Perez said in a news release Saturday that after exchanging words with election officials, she left once told law enforcement was being called. He said ballots remained secured. The individual left before officers arrived.
Jefferson police are working with the Marion County District Attorney's Office to determine whether any election code violations occurred. Perez said the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time. He thanked election officials for remaining professional and for quickly notifying law enforcement.
