Ruben Jaydeth Fuentes, 25, of Harlingen, was arrested and charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, according to jail records. His bonds total $900,000, the records show.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at about 8:38 p.m. Friday on Dixieland Road west of Rangerville Road in Harlingen. DPS said a preliminary investigation found that Fuentes was driving a pickup westbound on the wrong side of the road. DPS said a white Ford Explorer carrying four people swerved into the westbound lanes to avoid a head-on collision, and Fuentes's truck struck the Ford. DPS said a white Buick Encore then struck the Ford as the vehicles spun on the road.
DPS said all four people in the Ford were taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center. The agency identified one of them, Erica Lafollette Yzaguirre, 52, of Harlingen, who died from her injuries at the hospital. Fuentes is being held at the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center. DPS said its investigation is ongoing.
