A draft agenda for a closed-door discussion about giving up control of more than 1,000 acres of public land in Cameron County was prepared for a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department commission meeting set for early November, according to The Texas Tribune. The item was later removed from the final agenda. The agency has not publicly discussed the issue.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department owns nearly 500 parcels in Cameron County, according to the county appraisal district. Boca Chica State Park, about 1,060 acres, is near SpaceX's operations, and the rocket company has acquired more land near the park over the past decade. Texas Monthly reported that commissioners were expected to discuss the sale of 1,300 acres, purportedly to SpaceX, in a closed session.
The Tribune requested the draft agenda on Oct. 19. The agency asked the Attorney General's office on Friday to block its release. The Tribune said it reviewed the draft agenda language independently. Locals and environmentalists have expressed concern about the possible sale, the report said.
