Residents of the Rio Seco subdivision have submitted a petition to the Uvalde City Council asking for road repairs and debris removal. The request comes five months after floods swept parts of the county. In a letter signed by 18 residents, the group says rocks, fallen branches, sediment and other debris are blocking their flood channels. They said this poses concerns for neighboring homes and other infrastructure during rainfall.
The letter asks the city to repair a road inside the subdivision that eroded and washed away during the flood. It also asks the city to tell residents about its inspection process and clean-up schedule, and to consider a flood control program to prevent future flooding from the Leona River. The council has placed the petition on its 6 p.m. Nov. 10 agenda as a discussion item, at city hall council chambers.
The same meeting agenda includes recognizing two citizens who intervened during a gun-related altercation at an H-E-B on Oct. 19. The council also plans to give retiring Lieutenant Javier Martinez his duty handgun. Other possible items include a new ordinance requiring permits for building in a public right-of-way, changes to ordinances for the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, and a grant application to the Texas Department of Agriculture under the Texas Community Development Block Grant program. According to the agenda documents, the grant lists housing as one of its motivations.
