Flags will fly around the Caldwell County Courthouse, outside downtown Lockhart businesses and across neighborhoods in the county on November 11, Veterans Day. The holiday began as Armistice Day in 1918, when fighting in World War I ended. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation changing the name to Veterans Day so the country could honor all veterans.
Lockhart High School will host a Veterans Day performance at 10 a.m. on November 11 at the high school Performing Arts Center. It will feature students from the band, choir, dance and theater programs. A Veterans Day Luncheon will be held at the Connection Center, 200 S. Blanco St. Guests can arrive at 11:30 a.m., and the program starts at noon. It will include presentations and recognition of local veterans.
Several Lockhart ISD campuses also have Veterans Day activities planned. Junior high band, choir and orchestra students will visit Golden Age Home, Parkview and Chisholm Trail Home to recognize veterans who live there.
