Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa says she wants to send every Texas household a one-time $1,500 refund check. No money would go out unless state lawmakers approve the plan.

Her campaign calls the plan the "Greg Abbott Corruption Tax Refund." According to her campaign website, it would take about $17 billion from the state's Economic Stabilization Fund, known as the Rainy Day Fund, and leave about $10 billion in reserve. In a July post on X, Hinojosa said corporations "love Greg Abbott" and that he "gives them our money."

The campaign said that on her first day in office, Hinojosa would issue a proclamation declaring the affordability crisis in Texas an emergency and ask the Legislature to pass a bill providing the checks. Hinojosa has said she still wants to send the checks since winning Tuesday's election, according to other local news sources. No payment date, application process or eligibility rules have been announced.
