Grace Lutheran Church in Lockhart is marking its 75th anniversary in 2026. The congregation held its first service on Nov. 11, 1951, at McCurdy Funeral Home, led by the Rev. R.J. Huebner. Families formally organized the congregation in January 1952, and worship moved to Emmanuel Episcopal Church that April.
The church dedicated its first building on Fir Lane in 1956. A new sanctuary was dedicated in 1999 at 919 W. San Antonio St., where the congregation still worships. The church also runs Grace Lutheran Preschool, which began as Lutheran Happy Times Nursery School.
Pastor Jared Fischer said the church's long history comes from the people who have supported it. He described Grace Lutheran as a close-knit family whose members work together to keep the church moving forward.
