Gov. Greg Abbott has conceded the Texas governor's race to Democrat Gina Hinojosa, News 4 San Antonio reported. The station said votes were still being counted. Hinojosa's win would still need to be certified.

The Associated Press reported that Hinojosa was elected on Tuesday, defeating Abbott, the Republican incumbent. AP said she would be Texas' first Latina governor and the first Democrat to hold the office since Ann Richards in the 1990s. AP said Abbott's campaign had spent $180 million since last year and had been expected to win a fourth term.

AP reported that Hinojosa, a state legislator from Austin, ran with little money or name recognition. It said she campaigned against artificial intelligence data centers and corruption. AP also reported that Democrat James Talarico was running for U.S. Senate against Republican Ken Paxton in the same election.
