Bexar County Elections Administrator Michele Carew said 29,959 people had voted in person as of her Tuesday morning update. She said all 302 polling sites opened on time and are running smoothly. Most locations reported wait times of 15 minutes or less, though some schools on the West Side had longer lines.

More than half a million Bexar County residents voted early, a record for a midterm election. Carew said officials estimate about 150,000 more people could vote today. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Carew said Department of Justice election observers are in the county to check accessibility requirements, bilingual election staffing and a backlog of Department of Public Safety applications submitted before early voting. She said she does not believe the observers are trying to intimidate voters. Observers must stay outside the 100-foot boundary around polling locations.

Carew also said ballots placed in emergency bins during early voting because of scanner problems were collected, scanned and counted Saturday. The county hopes to release its first results around 7:30 p.m., though that could be closer to 8 p.m.
