U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced that the Federal Railroad Administration is investing $1.24 billion in rail safety projects through 91 grants in 37 states. The funds come through the FY 25-26 Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program. Texas is receiving $120 million of that total.
Bexar County will receive $47 million to eliminate an at-grade crossing in San Antonio. The Texas Department of Transportation will receive $46 million to build a grade-separated overpass in Fort Worth. The City of Amarillo will receive $15 million to eliminate a highway-rail grade crossing. The City of Houston will receive $10.5 million for project development and final design of a future grade separation project.
Smaller awards include $750,000 for the City of Schertz for a corridor planning study, $600,000 for Presidio County to evaluate crossings and rail access in Presidio and Marfa, and $400,000 for the City of Manor to plan crossing solutions along a freight rail corridor and a potential commuter rail corridor.
Duffy said the investments are part of the administration's commitment to protecting the traveling public and moving people and products by rail.
