Taylor County officials are preparing for Halloween night with the Lights Out Program. Registered sex offenders on probation from Callahan, Coleman and Taylor counties are required to gather at the Taylor County Law Enforcement Center from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Rikki Flores, a licensed sex offender treatment provider for Taylor County Adult Probation, said the time is used for supervision and required tasks. Those include testing, hair tests, a treatment package, meetings with their officers and discussion of thinking errors. Flores said offenders are told to go directly home after leaving at 9:30 p.m., and that most have curfews around 10 p.m.
As of Oct. 27, about 120 offenders on probation were registered to attend. Four of them are women, who will be in a separate room during the program.
Flores encouraged parents to check the state's public sex offender registry, which she called the SOR. She said it can be found by searching "SOR Texas." More information about the program is available through the Taylor County Law Enforcement Center.
