Republican candidates won contested races in Victoria County in Tuesday's midterm election, according to unofficial results from the Victoria County Elections Office. The office reported 28,479 ballots cast out of 58,169 registered voters, a turnout of 48.96%. All 35 county precincts had reported.

In the U.S. Senate race, Republican Ken Paxton received 17,103 votes in the county, or 60.64%. Democrat James Talarico received 10,599 votes, or 37.58%. Libertarian Ted Brown received 465 votes, or 1.65%. Write-in candidates received 38 votes.

Statewide, the Associated Press projected Talarico as the winner Tuesday night. At the time, he had 59.4% of the vote, compared with 39% for Paxton, with an estimated 66.08% of ballots counted. If the projection holds, Talarico would be the first Democrat to win a statewide election in Texas since 1994. According to AdImpact, political advertising spending in the race exceeded $500 million. In the Texas 27th Congressional District, Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Cloud received 65.18% of the county vote.
