Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Cloud won reelection to Texas' 27th Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Tanya Lloyd. The Associated Press projected Cloud the winner Wednesday, with an estimated 99% of votes counted. Cloud received 144,471 votes, or 51.2%, to Lloyd's 137,928, or 48.8%, a margin of 6,543 votes.
The race was much closer than the 2024 matchup, when Cloud won about 66% of the vote. It was the first congressional election under district boundaries redrawn in 2025. Lloyd held about 57.7% of reported votes around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, before Cloud regained the lead about an hour later.
Cloud, a Victoria businessman who has represented the district since 2018, spoke with the Victoria Advocate at his election night watch party in downtown Victoria. "It's going to be long," Cloud said. He thanked voters, saying, "thank you for the opportunity to represent you."
Cloud also led in Victoria County, his home county, with 18,337 votes, or 65.18%, to Lloyd's 9,761 votes, or 34.70%, according to unofficial county results. Election results remain unofficial until they are canvassed and certified.
