Outgoing Gov. Greg Abbott, who has served more than a decade, sought to make Texas the most pro-business state in the country. The Longview News-Journal said he has largely succeeded and that Texas became the eighth-largest economy in the world under his leadership, ahead of Canada and Russia.

Democrat Gina Hinojosa will replace Abbott in January. The article said Democratic candidates won every major statewide race in the election. It asks whether Texas's business success will continue under Hinojosa.

During her campaign, Hinojosa called on Abbott to issue an executive order placing an immediate moratorium on data center development in Texas. The article said she made data centers a central part of her pitch. Her campaign website says infrastructure for data center growth, such as 765-kV transmission lines, should be paid for by the "corporations and billionaires that drive those costs," while still improving grid reliability. The article said data center concerns over water use and rising electricity prices are shared across parties. Abbott issued a temporary data center moratorium in September, as the election approached.
