H-E-B has opened a new store on the Far East Side near Converse, at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 East. The 125,000-square-foot location is expected to create more than 400 jobs, according to the company.

General Manager Will Tate, who grew up in the community and has worked for H-E-B for more than 30 years, said he has deep roots in the area. He said the store aims to serve and celebrate people in the community. Shoppers will find a bakery with fresh tortillas, a Sushiya section, a meat market with Prime and Wagyu beef, a seafood department, and a True Texas BBQ restaurant with indoor seating. The store also has a pharmacy with drive-thru service, more than 30 curbside parking spaces and home delivery.

The area near Converse has seen about 17% more residents since 2020 and is expected to grow another 10% in the next four years. The new store is meant to serve East Side neighborhoods and commuters from Seguin, La Vernia and nearby communities. Development around the store is expected to add more retail and business space by the end of March. To mark the opening, H-E-B donated $25,000 to Boysville San Antonio, which helps children and young adults who have faced abuse, neglect or family challenges.
