Organizers will install 1,111 American flags at Oak Point Park in Plano for the Flags of Honor event, which runs Nov. 7-14. The event is run through a partnership between Plano Flags of Honor Rotary Community Corps and the city of Plano, and it will be held at Red Tail Pavilion at Oak Point Park.

According to a news release, each flag will have a dedication card that tells the story of a veteran, active-duty service member or first responder, from the Civil War to the present day. Event Co-Chair Lisa Bloomer said in the release that every flag carries a name and a story, and she invited people to walk the field, read the stories and stay for Taps at dusk.

According to the event website, activities include a Patriots Run 5K and fun run on Nov. 7, a Colors of Courage Ceremony on Nov. 8, a Veterans Day flag raising on Nov. 11, and closing ceremonies on Nov. 14 with a Scouts Flag Retirement Ceremony at sunset. Car shows, a Plano Safety Fair and Touch-a-Truck, and a Texas Medal of Honor Circle and Collin County Fallen Hero Display are also planned.

The field was first raised in 2017 and involves more than 300 volunteers. Ean Sullivan, founder of Plano Flags of Honor, said the experience changes with the time of visit. The field is open around the clock.
