Texas Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa said she would build a bipartisan administration. She made the pledge at her first news conference since defeating Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in the midterm elections. Hinojosa said people are "tired of the culture wars."
Hinojosa is the first Democrat to win the governor's office since 1990, and she will be Texas' first Latina governor when she takes office in January. Her win was part of a set of Democratic victories that also included James Talarico flipping a U.S. Senate seat, according to the report.
Her agenda will be tested in a divided Texas Legislature. Republicans lost control of the state House but still control the Senate.
