Huntington Bank held a check presentation on Thursday for 10 volunteer fire departments in Washington County. The bank gave $20,000, which will be divided among the departments to support their work in their communities. The amount each department will receive was not specified.

Berlin Mill Creek Zionsville VFD Assistant Chief Wayne Naumann said the money will go toward equipment, which he described as very expensive because it must be top quality. He said his department is working on another grass fire truck. He said drought conditions have led to more grass fires.

Chappell Hill VFD Operational Captain and President Dustin Brown said about 60% of his department's funds come from community support. He said the donation makes volunteers feel appreciated. Huntington Bank Regional President of East and Central Texas Peyton Jones said supporting the communities where the bank's employees live and work is part of the bank's mission. Most of the departments have about 15 volunteers.
