Voters in Childress approved a $133 million bond package for facility upgrades across Childress ISD. The largest project is a new secondary campus that will replace a facility about 100 years old. Each proposition received more than 60% approval, according to the district.

The measures also set up a future elementary school and an athletic field house. District officials said the vote reflects a shared priority for safe, modern learning spaces. Superintendent Mark Dykes thanked voters for learning about the propositions and said the buildings will serve students for decades.

Design work for the elementary school and athletic facility will not begin until property values rise to a level that prevents a tax increase, the district said. Architects estimate the design phase for the secondary campus will take six to eight months before contractor bids are issued. Crews are expected to need 24 to 36 months to finish construction once it begins.
