Amarillo police have released new details on a deadly crash on Bell Street on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Officers responded to the area of Bell Street and Sandie Drive for reports of a person being hit by a car.
Police said a white Dodge Ram traveling south on Bell Street entered the center turn lane to turn onto Granada Drive and hit a person crossing the street. The person fell into the northbound lanes. The pickup driver got out to check on the person, and both were then hit by a dark-colored GMC Sierra. The pedestrian died at the scene. The pickup driver was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Officers located the GMC Sierra a short time later. Police said the driver, 48-year-old Laura Jean Koenig, was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail. She is charged with collision involving personal injury or death. The pedestrian's identity has not been released.
