Two seats on the Harris County Appraisal District board will be decided in a runoff on Dec. 12, according to HCAD. The agency, which appraises property for tax purposes, said two of its three races are headed to the runoff ballot.
HCAD said the runoff could cost $4 million or more, depending on how many polling locations are needed. ABC13's news partners at the Houston Chronicle estimated the cost could reach $11 million, or $230 per voter, based on turnout from the 2024 runoff election.
In Place 2, Claudio Guiterrez and Jourdyn Wilson will face each other. In Place 3, Ericka McCrutcheon and Jesus Nieto will be on the ballot. The Harris County Clerk's Office said these are the only races on the December runoff ballot. Based on unofficial results posted on HCAD's website, Beverly Barrett received a majority of the votes for Place 1, defeating Kathy Blueford Daniels.
