The Houston Fire Department said a townhome on Beasley Hills, near Beall Street, caught fire at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday. Officials said a family of four, including two young children, was hurt and taken to the hospital after becoming trapped.

HFD District Chief Terry Marrow said residents helped the children and their mother jump from a third-story window before crews arrived. Marrow said the mother suffered back injuries. He said the father was burned while trying to get the family out and move a car from the garage, and that the father's injuries are critical. According to HFD, both children are OK and had only minor injuries.

Firefighters said they do not yet know how the fire started. Marrow said it appears to be accidental and that camera footage showed it began in the garage. He said the fire wall kept the flames from spreading to other homes.
