The Camp County Sheriff's Office issued a public safety alert after two armed suspects were reportedly involved in a series of vehicle break-ins in the Pittsburg area over the past few days, according to the sheriff's office and a release from the Pittsburg Police Department.

Police said the latest car burglaries occurred early Saturday morning on Tupelo Street and along U.S. Highway 11 East, including Daingerfield Street and Quitman Street. The release said a homeowner on Tupelo Street confronted the two suspects, shots were exchanged, and the homeowner suffered minor injuries. Police said both suspects appeared to be armed with handguns. On Tuesday, police reported that several residences along U.S. Highway 11 East had vehicles broken into overnight. Police said the suspects are looking for unlocked vehicles.

Police asked residents not to confront the suspects and to call 911 if they see them committing a car burglary. Anyone with information can call the Pittsburg Police Department at (903) 586-7201 or the Camp County Sheriff's Office at (903) 856-6651. The sheriff's office said on Facebook that people should treat the suspects as armed and dangerous, avoid disturbing a burglarized vehicle, preserve any security camera footage, and report suspicious activity. Police also urged drivers to lock their car doors and not leave items in vehicles overnight.
