A Jasper County man has been arrested after police found several firearms within reach of two children at a home on Friday, according to a release from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

Joshua Lenard, 35, of Evadale, was arrested on two counts of endangering a child. Police were sent to a residence on Farm-to-Market Road 2246 on Friday. The release said deputies determined that both parents appeared to be "highly intoxicated and unable to properly care for their two children, ages 6 and 9." Deputies also found multiple unsecured firearms within the children's reach.

The release said the mother was taken to a hospital and that warrants are pending for her arrest. Lenard was taken into custody.
