A man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a two-vehicle crash in Plano killed two people Friday evening, according to Plano Police. Police said alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors. Additional charges will be considered pending the outcome of the investigation.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe a Toyota RAV4 traveling north on Alma Drive was attempting a left turn onto westbound Cross Bend Road on a flashing yellow light when a Ford F150 traveling south on Alma Drive at a high rate of speed struck the right side of the RAV4. The RAV4 overturned and came to rest on its right side. Both vehicles also struck a traffic signal pole and a tree at the southwest corner of the intersection.

Officers found two people unconscious in the RAV4. Plano Fire-Rescue crews extricated them, attempted life-saving measures and were unsuccessful. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the F150, 22-year-old Steve Jaramillo, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. The Plano Police Traffic Unit is investigating.
