Early Friday, a San Antonio police officer shot and killed a 36-year-old male passenger after a chase that started on the South Side and ended in the Alamo Ranch neighborhood, authorities said. Street Crimes officers were investigating a string of robberies when they tried to pull over a vehicle just after midnight, according to San Antonio police.
The chase ended near Wild Pine. Police said the passenger got out and tried to open a neighborhood gate, and the officer shot him after he pulled out a gun. After the shooting, the driver shot himself and was taken to a hospital, where he was last reported in critical condition. A female passenger in the back seat was not hurt and was taken into custody on unrelated felony warrants.
The officer, a five-year veteran of the department, has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation.
