Laredo police have charged Abel Garza, 30, a U.S. Border Patrol agent who was off duty, with murder. Police say he stabbed his wife to death and left the couple's children home alone. Garza also faces child endangerment charges.

According to the Laredo Police Department, officers spotted Garza driving away with his seriously injured wife in the back seat and arrested him. Authorities said Garza had gone door to door asking neighbors for help before officers arrived. His wife later died from multiple stab wounds. Police later found the children unattended.

Garza remains in jail on a $1 million bond.
