Police said Sergio Diaz, 33, of Del Rio, was arrested after officers found two men fighting outside a restaurant in the 2100 block of Veterans Boulevard at about 2:14 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Officers separated the two men.
Police said Diaz lunged at a woman who walked up to him while officers were trying to detain him, and he struck her in the nose with his head, injuring her. Officers took him to the ground, and police said he kept resisting until he was placed in a patrol vehicle. Emergency Medical Services was called to check on the woman.
The other man told officers he had come to the restaurant to pick up Diaz and the woman, who were reportedly intoxicated. He said Diaz refused to get into a vehicle, which led to a disturbance in which Diaz allegedly assaulted him. Police said officers reviewed video that supported the man's account.
Diaz was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury-family violence and one count of resisting arrest, search or transport. He was booked and later transferred to the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration. Police said officers also applied for an emergency protective order. Criminal charges are accusations, and Diaz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
