The Webb County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday evening that a suspect in a double homicide in the Pueblo Nuevo community, just outside Laredo, is in custody. The Oct. 24 shooting killed Raul Ramos Moreno, 43, and Gustavo Ramos Moreno, 40, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators searched for Manuel De Jesus Cruz-Estudillo, 39, who was wanted on two outstanding murder warrants. The sheriff's office said Cruz-Estudillo later turned himself in to law enforcement at Bridge No. 1 in Laredo. U.S. Customs and Border Protection processed him, and he was then handed over to the sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division. The office said coordination between U.S. and Mexican authorities made the arrest possible.

Sheriff Martin Cuellar thanked the agencies involved and Mexican authorities for their cooperation. He said the work of the sheriff's investigators was swift and professional. Cuellar also credited Chief Timothy Tubbs, whose federal law enforcement experience, he said, helped strengthen coordination with Mexican authorities. The investigation is ongoing, according to the headline of the report.
