Democrats won three Cameron County Commission elections on Tuesday, according to unofficial returns. Esteban "Steve" Guerra defeated Republican Mauro Garza in the county judge race. Early results showed Guerra with nearly 67% of the vote. He won the Democratic primary in May over longtime incumbent County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr.

Joseph Lucio, a first-time office-holder, won the Precinct 2 seat over Republican Jonathan Campos. Precinct 4 Commissioner Gus Ruiz, the incumbent, defeated Republican challenger Oscar Guerra.

Guerra, an entrepreneur, served eight years on the Brownsville Navigation District Board, including four years as chairman. He told The Brownsville Herald that affordability is his main concern and that he plans to lower taxes and focus on infrastructure. His other priorities include drainage to protect against flooding, making sure the area has enough water and power for incoming industry, and transparency for the public.
