Democrat Bobby Pulido defeated two-term Republican Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz in the race for Texas' 15th Congressional District, the Brownsville Herald, Valley Morning Star and The Monitor reported. Pulido gave his victory speech Tuesday evening at Monarca Event Center in Edinburg.

Pulido received 126,204 votes to De La Cruz's 76,305, according to the reported totals. In Hidalgo County, he received 100,719 votes, or 74.38%, to De La Cruz's 34,701, or 25.62%.

In his speech, Pulido said he had flipped a district that voted for Trump by 18 points. He also said political extremism was the real loser in the race. Pulido said he had received a missed call from De La Cruz and had not been able to reach her since. He said, "I never wanted this campaign to be ugly."
