The city of Waco is temporarily changing the disinfectant in its water system from chloramine to free chlorine through Nov. 30, as part of its annual maintenance program. City officials said the process helps keep water quality and disinfectant levels effective across the distribution system. Water will remain safe to drink and use, but residents may notice a change in taste or odor, including a stronger chlorine smell.
Residents with home dialysis equipment, aquariums or other specialized water uses are encouraged to review guidance on possible effects. Questions can be sent to the city at 254-299-2489 or through the MyWaco app.
Other upcoming events include a tree planting and Pecan Bottoms cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, led by Keep Waco Beautiful and the parks department. A Career and Technical Education Town Hall is set for 5 p.m. Tuesday at the MCC Conference Center. Zoo Tunes runs from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Cameron Park Zoo, and a Fall Bites & Bonding cooking class is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the AgriLife Extension office.
