Texas Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa is scheduled to hold her first news conference since defeating Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. The news conference is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in Austin. According to final election results, Hinojosa received 53% of the vote to Abbott's 46%, ending Abbott's bid for a fourth term. Her win ends more than three decades without a Democrat in the Texas governor's office. She would also be the first Latina to serve as Texas governor.

The focus has shifted from her campaign promises to how she plans to carry them out. Hinojosa has proposed changes involving Texas public schools, property taxes, electricity rates, Medicaid and data centers. She has also proposed a one-time $1,500 refund to Texas households. Several of these proposals would need approval from state lawmakers.
