The Edna Cowgirls volleyball team beat Wharton last Friday night at their home gym for their fifth straight win. The team finished 11-3 in District 24-3A, second in the regular season behind district champion Vanderbilt Industrial, which went 14-0 in district play and is ranked No. 14.

Edna head coach Jenna Buzek described the team as scrappy, saying its players swarm the ball on offense and defense. She said hustle is what keeps the team in games. Last season, Edna won five district games with a team that had six freshmen and three returning players.

The team opened 2026 with four straight losses and was 6-17 when district play began in early September. Buzek said the team needed experience. She said she had one senior and one junior who welcomed the freshmen. The junior, Avery Garcia, is now a senior and plays near the front of the net.
