Tenya Parker held a Prayer in Pink rally on Oct. 24 on the historic courthouse grounds in Marshall. The event was hosted by Pink Butta' Flies, a nonprofit she recently launched, and observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Parker, a five-year cancer survivor, said she believes in the power of prayer. She said the event was meant to uplift people who have gone through cancer treatment or are in treatment now. She also said she gave out blankets to breast cancer survivors.
Kim Miles spoke about her own breast cancer diagnosis at age 47. She said the disease has affected her family, including her oldest sister, Nikita Richardson Jackson, who died at age 40. Miles said she went through chemotherapy and radiation and is now six years past her diagnosis. She said the Bible verse 1 Peter 4:12 helped carry her through.
