Voters in Webb County are preparing to make decisions in several closely watched local, state and federal races as the election cycle nears its end. The races include the contest for Laredo mayor, City Council Districts 2, 3 and 6, a municipal court judge seat, the Texas Senate race and the race for Texas' 28th Congressional District.

Several political figures have visited Laredo during the campaign, including the Speaker of the House and statewide candidates. Former President Bill Clinton made an endorsement in the District 28 race. President Donald Trump brought his campaign to San Antonio.

Election officials said the high-profile races and the stakes involved are helping drive record-breaking voter turnout. KGNS political contributors Sergio Mora and Carlos Guerra joined a panel discussion on the races. The panel is covering candidate quality and platforms, the factors shaping each contest, and a rematch in one city council race after an earlier election was overturned in court.
