Texas State Technical College (TSTC) is adding evening classes to its plumbing and pipefitting program in Abilene. Steve Longmire, the program's plumbing and pipefitting instructor, said the classes will meet four days a week from 6 to 9:40 p.m. He said the schedule will let working adults train for a trade while keeping their jobs.

On Monday, students met with a local employer. Diane Walters, director of industry relations at Lochridge Priest, said her company looks for workers who show up on time, listen well, ask good questions and help others. Longmire said the program is designed to prepare students to become journeymen plumbers. He also said students who work for plumbers in the Big Country have been pleased with the training so far.

Registration for the spring semester is open. Classes are scheduled to begin January 11.
