The Houston Police Department released a quarterly immigration report on Oct. 28. It lists 17 direct transfers to ICE between July 1 and Sept. 30, 2026. The report also covers 292,975 checks of people through the National Crime Information Center, a national law enforcement database.

The department recorded 88 immigration-related database hits or ICE contacts. The report combines those two categories, so the 88 total does not mean 88 separate calls made by officers to ICE. The report said immigration-related hits or ICE contacts made up about 0.03% of person checks in the quarter, and direct transfers made up about 0.006%. It listed an average detention length of 46 minutes.

Separately, Harris County jail figures shared by FOX 26 show 4,024 releases to ICE so far this year. The county figures cover a different time period and a jail that receives people booked by several law enforcement agencies, so the two sets of numbers are not directly comparable.

Sergio Lira, president of Greater Houston LULAC Council 4967, said understanding those differences is important. He said the numbers alone do not capture the fear residents describe to his organization.
