A father is in critical condition after a fire started in a garage and spread to a home on Houston's north side Thursday morning, officials said.
Officials said the fire began around 1:30 a.m. in the area between Beasley Hills and Nelson Falls Lane. They said a vehicle caught fire in the home's garage, and the flames spread and engulfed the house. As the fire grew, a mother and her two children jumped from a third-story window. Officials said all three are expected to be OK.
The father helped the family get down from a balcony and suffered severe injuries in the process, officials said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Officials are investigating what caused the vehicle to catch fire.
