The Rotary Club of Port Arthur held a PolioPlus Social Hour on Oct. 22 to raise awareness and support for Rotary International's global effort to eradicate polio. The event was hosted in partnership with Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux in Port Arthur and marked World Polio Day.
Under the leadership of club President Carolyn J. Brown, residents and Rotarians gathered in support of the "End Polio Now!" campaign. The club said 10 percent of sales from the event will go to Rotary's polio eradication efforts. Attendees also took part in a brief walk to show support for the worldwide campaign.
Brown thanked the Rotarians and community members who attended or contributed financially. The club said the event was meant to remind people that small acts of service can help a cause that affects people around the world. Rotary encourages continued support of its PolioPlus initiative through financial contributions and advocacy.
