A groundbreaking for the $61 million Evans & Rosedale Urban Village in Fort Worth's Historic Southside neighborhood is planned for Dec. 12, with a block party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Evans Avenue Plaza. People can RSVP through the project's webpage.

The project will include apartments, live-work spaces, shops and restaurants. The existing park will be part of the plan. District 8 Council member Chris Nettles said in a statement that the development honors the area's history of Black entrepreneurship and community leadership. Fort Worth officials, representatives of the developer Royal Capital and the Historic Southside Neighborhood Association will take part in the ceremony.

The ceremony will be followed by a lunch and family-friendly activities. Kevin Newell, founder and CEO of Royal Capital, which is based in Milwaukee, said the company was selected in 2024 to develop the project.
