Voters in Tarrant County will choose a commissioner for Precinct 2 on Nov. 3. The seat was redrawn last year by the Commissioners Court. Democrat Jared Williams and Republican Tony Tinderholt are running for the open seat. Democrat Alisa Simmons is leaving it to run for county judge.

Tinderholt, 56, is stepping down from the Texas House of Representatives, where he served 12 years representing parts of Arlington and northeast Tarrant County in District 94. His campaign priorities include lowering property taxes, fully funding law enforcement, eliminating waste, fraud and abuse, and supporting economic growth and election integrity.

Williams, 36, resigned from the Fort Worth City Council last year after four years representing southwest Fort Worth, including the Como neighborhood. His campaign has focused on lowering the cost of living, ensuring "excellent" county services and protecting residents' rights, including the right to vote and to address elected officials at public meetings.

Each county commissioner serves a four-year term and represents one part of the county. The Commissioners Court sets the county budget and tax rates, oversees county roads and facilities, and establishes voting precincts.
